Shaykh (Shehu) Uthman Dan Fodiyo, may Allah envelope him in His mercy, spent his entire life imitating the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in all of those areas which was under his control: such as his character, dress, worship, etc...
In result of this, Allah blessed him to imitate the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in those areas which were outside of his control! For example, the Shehu had his major spiritual opening at the age of 40, in the same way that the Prophet , may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was given revelation at the age of 40. This is when the nickname, Nur uz-Zamaan, was given to him. He also made the hijrah (migration) from Degel to Gurdu in a North West direction in the same way that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, made hijrah from Makkah to Madinah in a North west direction. The military battles took place after (and not before) this migration just like the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He lived to see all of his enemies either join his ranks or killed, just like the Prophet , may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Allah even took his soul at the age of 63 just like the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace!
All of this and more occurred just from following the Sunnah! There is safety and victory in the Sunnah so adhere to it!
